Promoting Sustainable Production
Promoting Biodiversity and Sustainable Farming In Sweden: Pollination In The Bruses Forest.
Total Produce operations across the world are committed to ensuring adherence to the best agricultural practices from seed to store. In Total Produce Nordic, our Scandinavian division, our people have taken this to the next level, introducing a clever initiative designed to promote the importance of Bees and emphasise their role in production of fresh produce. As a part of a broader sustainability project, Total Produce Nordic is hosting a bee colony on-site in their Everfresh depot in Helsingborg, in the south of Sweden. Pollination and honey production, of course makes the bee one of the planets most important creatures. Through pollination the bees increase crop yield on a large number of the fruits and vegetables we eat. The Helsingborg bees fly to the flower meadows of Bruses forest next to Everfresh and draw their nectar.
The Beekeeping project is a collaboration with the local beekeeper Thomas Henriksson from Mjöhult, who oversees the project, taking care of the bee colonies and hives and spreading knowledge about bees and the importance of their pollination work. At a time when consumers are ever further removed from nature and the day to day realities of how fresh fruits and vegetables are produced, this is an effort to remind everyone across the supply chain of the role of nature and specifically the humble bee in sustainable farming and the delicate balance that must be maintained in producing crops.
